At It Again

There is talk in the air. Seems the legislators are at it again. Making dumb decisions.
In light of all the school kids who get hurt playing sports for their schools our wonderfully intelligent legislators are talking of fining the schools.

The schools!

Give me a break. Isn't that like fining yourself?
Should we fine the schools and they run short of money they will only have to raise taxes even higher to cover the losses from the fines.

What makes more sense to me would be to fine the coaches who are in charge of the players and are supposed to be looking out for their safety.
It's them who are not taking their entire job seriously. It is them who are pushing sports players beyond the bounds of safety. It is them who are allowing players to wonder beyond the bounds of safety. It is them that could first sideline players who choose to push their limits beyond safe limits.

Schools and administrations should be allowed to fine their hired coaches if they are not doing their jobs.

To fine the schools!
That just makes no sense to me at all. And I only see higher taxes to myself and all of us because of decisions that are not thought out completely, in advance of making decisions.

The Cave

Guys think food, women think cuisine.
Wonder why that thought raced through my mind...

Could it be that I was so busy yesterday that I didn't bother to eat except for two pieces of cinnamon toast with my morning coffee...
Oh well, wasn't hungry then and I'm not now.

A guy can live in a house. As long as there is heat, the roof doesn't leak and cold wind can't blow in, he can be comfortable.
It takes a woman to make it a home.

For many years my house has needed some work done in the remodeling department. I can do remodeling. Did that for a living for many years. Was always good at helping people come to decisions for remodeling.
Yet every time I try to decide what exactly to do here, I hit a brick wall in my thoughts.

Just what if...
What if I do what I think would be good and nice then find a partner and she would rather it was done differently.
What a waste of time, energy and money that would be...
So I just make do.

I think it's true.
If not for women, men would still be living in caves.

Yup, I'm Late

Yes, I'm late. Usually on Mondays I try to leave a little something here for motivation. Not today.

See, things didn't exactly go as planned this weekend. I had wanted to finish the garden planting and get the lawn mowing caught up.
Well only half the garden got done. All but one large patch of the lawn got mowed.
There were other things that popped up. None of which is really important here. The sauce tomato's are in, the eating tomato's are in, lettuce, spinach, radishes and carrots are in. The bell peppers, mild hot peppers and the cayenne hot peppers are in. The cucumbers and zucchini are in. But I didn't get finished.

Then Sunday late evening when I was just about to finish that last spot of the lawn mowing danged if I didn't hit a big piece of firewood that was being hidden by the tall grass and broke another mandrel on the mower deck. Now thinking of what it costs to replace that darned mandrel doesn't make me happy, but my back had had enough and if it wouldn't have broke I may be in bed today on my stomach again. Groaning from pain.

So after my first cup of coffee this morning I took a short drive because I'm nosy. I wanted to see how everyone else in the area was coming along with the planting. Almost everyone is close to finished. With that wonder out of the way and once again home I thought I'd take a short walk in the beautiful cool morning air. Had a really nice walk while listening to the birds sing their songs and seeing the world waken from a nights sleep.

Then I had some more coffee. While thinking what I would write for you today, those darned old priorities crept into my mind. That garden wasn't finished.

So out I went and got the tiller and began. It's afternoon now and I'm glad to say that all the planting I wanted done is done. The sweet corn is in and the green beans are in.
It's said by the weather forecasters that it's to begin raining here later today and will be rainy and wet the rest of the week. So getting that finished and out of the way before the rain just made sense.

Many times in life things get I our way of what we want to or have to get accomplished. Having unaccomplished tasks that are important to us clogs or fogs our minds. So best thing to do is get them done.

That is prioritizing.

If I wouldn't have finished that gardening it would have bugged me for days. I have a few weeks off and a trip planned. Just when I would have gotten back to the garden could be anyone's guess. That could have messed with my mind for the time off I so dearly want and am looking forward to.

Not deciding to place our priorities for bills in order can mess with our thoughts and happiness also. No one likes to hear it but it is something we need to do.

Having unfinished things in our minds just has a way of eating on us. In some marriages unpaid bills cause so much frustration they causes fights to erupt. The unpaid bills seldom get mentioned, but they are clogging the mind and making it impossible to tolerate the little things. I've observed it and sad to say, been through it myself.

So I made the decision to finish that garden. Now as I finish writing I'm hearing thunder off in the distance. But I can smile because the garden is in. I won't have to water that garden, and I will be unencumbered by the thought of that unfinished garden while I have my needed and wanted time off and away.

By keeping things in their proper place, those darned old priorities, my life can be happier and my smiles can flourish.

Hope your smiling too!

The Weekend

Most years I have my garden in by now. With the messes up weather this year though I have barely got mine started. I do remember years we didn't get the gardens in until June. Well after the frosts were past.

So this weekend I will be a gardening fool. After getting off here this morning I'm off to pick up the rest of the plants I want and tomorrow, Saturday, I will be planting which will run right into late Sunday.

There is a local nursery here that's selling the tomato sets I like. So I no longer go through the trouble to start my own. I have little to no luck starting bell peppers and having them survive to get them in, so I buy them. Now my Hungarian Wax Peppers and Cayenne Peppers I can start.

I like the Hungarian for stuffing. Either with sauerkraut, with cheese or a meat stuffing. They along with the Cayenne make a really tasty salsa. The Cayenne's are great for adding the spicy flavor I like in many foods. Even for spicing up foods when you just feel like spicy.

There are still seeds that need to be put in. It was just to cold and wet to get them in early this year. Even some sweet corn I planted earlier rotted in the ground. Not one blasted corn plant is up... So it will be tillers running and butts in the air this weekend in a rush to get the garden planting done.

I also have some flowering plants that need put in their beds for the season. The wildflowers and other flower seeds are up and looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing their bright colors welcoming my eyes.

So there will not be any running around this weekend or playing. Well, OK. Not to much playing. I can never seem to work and not play at least a little bit. There is always time to squeeze in a laugh and smile!

I do have a granddaughters birthday party to go to. So I'll be squeezing that in too. Hey, it's her birthday party! How can a grandpap miss that? Besides, there is always food, birthday cake and other tasty goodies at birthday parties. Lots of smiles and laughs to be shared with others too. So I just know I can find a little time for that! At least an hour or two.

Now if I could just enlist some help to get all the planting done...
My daughter will be busy with the party. My oldest kids live to far away. My youngest son will inevitably be busy with something else. Seems he always is. Especially when it's time for gardening...
But he's always ready and available to help eat the fruits of the labor!
Go figure...

So there is my layout for my weekend.
Yup.
There is always something one can find to do.
Seriously! If you can't find something to do, it's only because you don't want to.

Nagging Thoughts

I read this line quite some time ago on another blog and it stuck in my head. It's been long enough that I just can't remember for sure who's blog it was. So I just don't know for certain who deserves the credit for it. I do think it was nuckingfutsmama.com .

“There’s nothing sexier than watching your husband empty the dishwasher completely unprompted.”

That line made so much sense. Anytime when in a relationship that I did something mundane when it was least expected, I was treated like a king.
It would bring smiles to my partners face which in turn she would put a smile on my face. I really never expected that, it just happened.

It seems that doing things unexpectedly can excite and intrigue your lady.
Then again though doesn't it work that way for everyone...

You may not believe she could be as tired as you but chances are she is. If you don't buy that, then next time you have a week off of work you do her job. Not what you think her job is, but do all that she does day to day.

Bud, my X left. She left me with two little children to raise on my own. One was three, the other was nine months. Not only did I have to work, I also had to be Mr. Mom. It wasn't like working two full time jobs, it was more like working three. Daddy, nanny and the cleanup guy.

Think your job gives you mental challenges? Be challenged all day and evening by the kids. Think your boss is tough to work for and keep happy? Try working for the home and you.

Put yourself in deep thought and just imagine what it would be like to work and do all she does, then imagine yourself when you come home. Think you would be happy with you?

Maybe, just maybe you might try surprising her by doing something completely unexpected. Would it kill ya to?
Would your hands melt if you cleaned off the table after dinner and washed the dishes?

Would it be to much of a challenge for you to keep the kids busy and supervise them for a few hours in the evening so she can rest?
Would it do you in to at least help her do that more?
Would it break your back to pick up after the kids?

Would it be to much for you to pick up and run the vacuum while she's trying to get the carpet crawlers in bed? Would it be to much of a job for you to get them in bed? Trust me, it's not as easy as you might think sometimes...

Now I'm not about to suggest you do the dusting for her. To many guys are like myself and never think of dusting until a decent crop of plants can be grown in said dust...

But I'm sure you can see things that need done. Positive you can do many of those things she has to do yet after you get home. Certain you can even see them.

Ya know, if you help her get them done you just might get a chance to have her snuggle up on the couch with you to mellow out at the end of the day. Just like ya did when you were still dating.

You just might find yourself getting to know her again and falling in love all over again!
Wouldn't that at least be worth the try...

Have Ya Ever Wondered

Just why is it that as packaging gets smaller and less gets put in those packages, the prices keep going up...

Why is it that as cars get smaller the prices keep going up...

Just how does a six foot man get into those cars...

How do I remove my head to get through the doors of those cars!

How is it the more cars and trucks we buy that use less gas the prices of gas keeps skyrocketing...

Guys. Have you ever looked at the things she wears? Ever caught a glimpse of her getting dressed? Just how can a woman ever need any more exercise than getting dressed up real pretty...

Just her getting dressed should make you feel sorry for her and want to give her a day off...

Think my son wants to know just how many dishes I can make from a base of creamed beef.

Heck, I want to know just how many concoctions I can come up with from a base of creamed beef.

Want to know why every tool I need will have been used by my son and not put back where it belongs.

Want to know when my son will learn to clean up after himself.

Want to know why he can't tell the difference between a trash can and the floor...

Want to know why I have no socks and the pile he calls his bedroom floor keeps growing.

Want to know why the dogs think my bed is so much more comfortable than their own.

Want to know when the dogs are going to feed me!

Want to know why the oldest dog thinks it's primary reason for living is to chase the chickens.

Why is it that bacon, maybe the worst food in the world for your health, tastes so darned good...

What would chocolate covered bacon taste like...
Don't find out. I put a Hershey's kiss in my mouth right before eating some bacon. My kids got a wonderful smile from the disgusted look on my face.
Though I did my best to convince them it was good, they wouldn't buy it.

Darned kids just had to learn to always be to smart for my fun.

Do We Really Need Them

Our government now decides we need some kind of ID that is recognized nationally and proves who we are so that we can vote.
I see only some small problems with that. The biggest is getting to the people and making it possible for them to get that ID at the lowest cost possible if not for free. Being it's mandated I feel it should be free to those who can't get it some other way.

Another thought though crossed my mind.
Since all the US citizens will need to have this and it will prove who they are and that they are in fact citizens of the US. Being also that computers can check identification real fast and check for records that might stop a citizen from having some rights.

Wouldn't it be quite possible that instead of Senate and Congress making all the final decisions, that they could be put to a vote by the people theirselves?
A site where any of the US citizens who are interested in and care about the forward progress of our country could take the time to read, study and vote on the proposed legislation.

Or at least a sight to explain the proposed legislation and comment to the people elected from your district to let them know your feelings before they make the final decisions. Let them know your concerns. Let them know our ideas of how legislation might affect us or how it could be better.
A relatively simple site.

Unique individual passwords, I think, could be given when you vote. Maybe even be given every time one votes at the polls and the old ones be expired.

Hee, hee, hee, maybe we could cut the costs of our government by not needing such a large cast of congressional members.

Ehh, just a thought.

I feel quite safe in saying there are no legislators who would vote for that. They wouldn't want to lose their cushy overpaid jobs nor the benefits they receive...
They surely wouldn't want their constituency interfering with their decisions.

But it was a thought that brought a smile to my face!
